CET counseling postponed to 7 July

Now wait till 7 July for the Common Entrance Test (CET), counseling for admissions to engineering colleges in Karnataka. The state government has decided to defer the admissions till more colleges receive All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approval.

Reason for Delay in CET Counseling:

The CET counseling was supposed to start on 27th June, according to the original schedule, but that has now been postponed to 7 July, as the state government is waiting for AICTE approval for 30-35 Engineering colleges.

So far, AICTE has granted approval to 145 of the 189 engineering colleges which had applied for its approval.

The AICTE meeting for considering the applications for approval was originally scheduled for 21 June but it has been postponed to 28 June. So, now the total number of seats in the AICTE approved engineering colleges in Karnataka would be known only after that meeting.

State education minister’s take on delay:

Blaming the delay on AICTE, Karnataka  education minister said that the ministry had made all preparations to start engineering counseling as per schedule.

The minister assured that the counseling would be completed on 16 September, as scheduled. The Karnataka Examination Authority staff have decided to work during  weekends to ensure that, the minister added.

State government wants lower cut off for the reserved category:

The state government has written to AICTE to set the minimum percentage for the reserved category students at 40 per cent. At present, AICTE has approved 45 per cent cut off for the reserved category students and 50 per cent cut off for general category students.
